Description: Offered in even years. External morphology of insects, including the evolution of structures and mechanics of function. Powerpoint presentations and videos illustrate the evolution and variety of external insect structures and how they form functional complexes that work together. In the laboratory portion, students examine, dissect, and illustrate a variety of insects to understand the functional relationships and evolution of the insect exoskeleton. The course fulfills a departmental requirement that students be conversant with the evolution and structure of the insect body.
