Mudge Week
This is a weeklong of student-centered activities named in honor of Benjamin F. Mudge, a beloved professor who was passionate about bugs and fostering excellent student experiences.
This year, we're focused on raising money to restore C.V. Riley prints that are in the Hale Library's Special Collections.
The Popenoe Entomology Club's Mudge Week Committeee works on developing and putting on the events. Example of events include:
- C.V. Riley Special Collections tours
- Cats' Cupboard donation drives
- Bug art and photo competitions
- Students vs. Faculty Bug Trivia Cage Match
- Student-Sponsored Invited Speaker
2026 Mudge Week Art and Photo Contest and Gallery Official Rules
February 28 is the last day to submit.
This year, the Popenoe Entomology Club is partnering with the Manhattan Arts Center for its Annual Mudge Week Art and Photo Contest. Mudge Week is a weeklong celebration of entomology named in honor of Benjamin F. Mudge a beloved K-State professor of entomology among other topics. This year, Mudge Week will take place from March 30- April 3. All submissions will be displayed in a gallery during Mudge Week at the Manhattan Arts Center. Winners will be selected by a vote for each category, and announced at our Mudge Week Awards Ceremony on Friday, April 3 at 3:30 pm in Waters Hall Room 231.
The contest is open to all. Only one art and one photo submission will be accepted per person. The categories are as follows:
Art is defined as any original artwork featuring insects and their relatives (spiders, scorpions, ticks, etc.). A photo is defined as any original picture taken of a live or preserved insect and their relatives (spiders, scorpions, ticks, etc.) that has minimal artistic editing (basic editing such as cropping, adjusting lighting, etc. allowed). There is no fee to enter.

- A K-State student that shares the PEC’s mission and abides by the decisions as voted on by the club
- Participates in club activities and events and attends at a minimum 1 hour of club meetings or sponsored outreach or FFA activities per semester.

Due to space limitations, the size of entries are limited to 8x10 inches. Digital and physical submissions will be accepted. To enter, please fill out the entry form here: Popenoe Entomology Club Art Gallery Submission Form. On your form, you will indicate whether your submission is physical, digital, or both. If your submission is physical, you will be contacted by the club to arrange a drop off, if you are submitting a physical submission. Please email digital art and photos to popenoe@ksu.edu. Digital art and photos will be printed as submitted (no changes will be made to your submission other than to scale it to fit the frame). Digital art and photos that are submitted, as well as physical submissions that are not already framed or on a canvas framed in a standard black 8x10 frame. Following the closing of the gallery, contestants will have the option to claim their artwork back within 2 weeks, after which the art will be considered a donation to the club.

so submissions will be accepted on a first come, first served basis until the category is
full, so early submission is encouraged.

Voting will open at the Mudge Week Art Gallery Kickoff on Monday, March 30. Voting
QR codes will be available at the Manhattan Arts Center and sent to the club
membership and contestants through email. Voting will close at 11.59 pm on April 2 so
that votes can be tallied for the Awards Ceremony. Votes are limited to one vote per
person. In the event of a tie, both winners will be recognized.

By entering this contest, you agree to have your name and title of your work displayed
along with your work at the Manhattan Arts Center. If you win, you agree to have your
work, name and title shown at the Awards Ceremony. Popenoe Entomology Club is not
responsible for any technical issues in the printing of digital submissions or in the voting
process. Popenoe Entomology Club Mudge Week Committee retains the right to
disqualify a submission if it does not meet the rules laid out in this document, if it
features content deemed inappropriate for a public family friendly gallery, or if it does
not align with PEC Mission as defined in the Popenoe Entomology Club Constitution.
