Tenure Track - Kansas State University
      Assistant Professor (12-month, Tenure Track) position in Agroecosystem Landscape Ecology

Job Description: The incumbent will develop a strong research program in agroecosystem landscape ecology emphasizing pest and/or beneficial arthropods in field crop systems and surrounding habitats. Possible research approaches and tools include, but are not limited to, geolocation techniques, population dynamics, dispersal/migratory behavior, mathematical and statistical modeling, or molecular techniques.

Collaborate in research with faculty on and off campus in departments of Entomology, Plant Pathology, Agronomy, Biochemistry and Molecular Biophysics, Division of Biology, Statistics or in the USDA Center for Grain and Animal Health Research. Procure extramural grant funding to support research efforts. Teach one undergraduate course per year and one graduate-level insect ecology course every other year with the potential for new course(s) in a defined area of interest. Supervise and co-advise graduate students and serve on graduate student committees. Mentoring of undergraduate student research projects is also encouraged. Provide guest lectures, as needed, in courses or programs within and outside the Department.  Participate in various departmental, college, university, and professional society committees. Occasional participation in departmental outreach activities is expected.

Required Minimum Qualifications: Ph.D. and significant course work in insect ecology with a strong research emphasis in the field, as measured by professional publications. Successful candidate will have demonstrated an ability to conduct ecological research at a landscape level, acquire funding to support his/her research, and publish in peer-reviewed journals. In addition to excellence in research, the incumbent is expected to have demonstrable skills in verbal and written communication, interpersonal relations, and procurement of extramural funding.

      Postdoctoral Research Fellow

12-month, full-time (40 hours/week), term, non-tenure track position.

The Postdoctoral Fellow will perform comparative genomic and gene/protein evolution analyses, analyze transcriptome data, and quantify gene expression (e.g., qRTPCR) in vivo for immune genes and gene families of interest. The goal is to identify genes and gene products that are essential in house fly-bacteria interactions across their life history. The Fellow is expected to take the lead on directing and coordinating team projects and will have the opportunity to work with both undergraduate and graduate students in the laboratories.

Candidates must have Ph.D. in biology, biochemistry, chemistry or any relevant sub-discipline. Previous experience in comparative genomics and/or transcriptomics, gene/protein evolution, gene expression (mRNA, protein) must be substantiated in reference letters and/or publications. Candidate must have excellent technical, organizational, verbal and written communications skills.

Research Associate - Kansas State University

Research Technician - Kansas State University

General Description of Position:

Full time (40/hrs/week) plus benefits.   Research Technician to be located in Hays, KS, at the Agricultural Research Center.  This is an entry level, term position with the possibility of reappointment depending on performance and the availability of funding.

Job Description:

The field crops entomology project at the Agricultural Research Center in Hays, KS, invites applications for a full-time Research Technician position.  Duties will include growing plants in a greenhouse, collecting insects from the field, maintaining insect colonies in the laboratory, collecting and compiling data from experiments, and assisting with some agronomic activities in field experiments.  The suitable candidate will be motivated by scientific curiosity, possess a versatile skill set, be willing to learn new techniques, and demonstrate independent capability in task accomplishment.  A flexible work schedule will be required with some weekend hours.
