There are at least two generations of garden webworms in Kansas, and damage to corn typically occurs in early summer. The larvae are slender worms with six prominent black spots on each segment and transverse yellow lines across the back. They move backwards rapidly when disturbed and can skeletonize leaves on plants that are less than 18 inches tall. Damage can be severe if heavy infestations develop.
