Corn Insects
Grasshoppers (Acrididae)
Damage may occur at anytime during the growing season. Field margins should be sprayed early in the season while grasshoppers are small when they reach approximately 20 per square yard. Applying sprays before they move into the field greatly reduces the area that must be sprayed and the amount of insecticide. The in-field threshold is five to eight grasshoppers per square yard when present from just before pollination until anthesis is complete.
Please refer to the most recent version of the Corn Insect Management Guide for treatment options.
